Virginia Peoples (Moore)

Virginia Carol Peoples Moore, 81, passed away unexpectedly, November 11, 2023 at her home. She was born May 22, 1942, raised in Davie County and grew up in Cooleemee, NC. She always referred to Davie County people as “my people” and she never forgot her humble beginnings. Helping and providing for those in need became her mission in life. She graduated from Boyden High School in Salisbury, NC.
Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, Elizabeth Peoples and Arthur Peoples; sister, Mary Peoples Lambert, brother and sister-in-law Johnny and Darlene Peoples, and brother, William “Billy” Peoples.
Surviving are her daughters, Wanda Deal Williams (Ted) of China Grove, NC and Windy Carol-Deal Humphrey (Kevin) of Salisbury, NC; granddaughters, Karolanne Elizabeth Trogdon of Waynesville, NC and Kristyn Elaine Trogdon of Youngsville, NC; her partner of 30 years, Christopher A. Scoggins of Salisbury, NC; brother, Terry Peoples (Sharon) of Salisbury, NC; sister, Ann Spratt (Jim) of Salisbury, NC.
Virginia was a hard worker and excelled at every career she chose. She worked at Cartex Mills, often helping her elderly co-workers with their jobs and doing hers too. She worked double shifts to take care of her two daughters. After her work in textiles, she became a Legal Secretary working for J.D. Hurst, Attorney-at-Law. As her crowning achievement, she owned and operated a successful business, the Foxy Lady, for 40 years outlasting all her competition. She also owned several rental properties. She was very proud of her financial success and the longevity of her business. One of her proudest moments in her business was in 1981 when the popular band, Alabama, played at her establishment.
She never allowed any adversity or thoughts from others deter her from helping others and being successful. She was fiercely independent and strong-willed (some would say stubborn), highly intelligent and wise, feisty and intimidating to some; however, behind her tough exterior, she was soft-hearted, compassionate and one of the most giving people you could ever meet. She would give you the shirt off her back. She was truly one of a kind. Nobody can ever fill her shoes and she had many shoes.
Virginia enjoyed gardening, flowers, doing crossword puzzles, playing her favorite game on the computer, watching the news, movies and her favorite television shows, and taking photos. She loved to decorate for the holidays. At Christmas time, her home looked like a designer Christmas Wonderland. Everyone came to visit each year to see her beautiful decorations and take in all the splendor. She also enjoyed music, dancing, and singing. She came from a musical family and would often play and sing with her Dad and brothers while they played the mandolin and guitars. Ask anyone who has ever been to her home, she was an avid collector. Her door was always open and there was always a seat at her table.
She was the matriarch of our family. She was our rock. Over the years, she has been a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, bonus mom, grandmother, partner, friend, and caretaker to many in her life and even an occasional stranger. That’s a story for another day.
She was most proud of and invested in those she loved… her partner of 30 years - Chris, who she often referred to as her “Honey,” her daughters - Wanda and Windy, and her granddaughters - Karolanne and Kristyn. She loved us with all her being. Everything she did and accomplished was for us in the end so we would have a better life. There is a huge void in our lives that can never be filled. We miss her terribly. We will love and keep her in our hearts forever.
